UBC’s community members contribute to the success of the University in many ways. Whether it be through teaching, volunteer work and service, or research, UBC celebrates these achievements through awards and recognition programs throughout the year.
Staff Awards & Recognition
UBC’s staff are vital to the success of the University. Each year, UBC staff can be found contributing to the University through volunteering, acting as coaching mentors, creating new and better systems and processes, and more. Find out some of the ways in which staff contributions are recognized and celebrated.
The President’s Service Award of Excellence recognizes staff for excellence in personal achievements and outstanding contributions to UBC.
The UBC Vancouver President’s Staff Awards recognizes the personal achievements and contributions of Vancouver campus staff to UBC and to the vision and goals of the University.
The UBC Okanagan Staff Awards of Excellence recognizes the achievements and contributions of staff at UBC’s Okanagan campus.
These awards provide recognition and rewards to Facilities staff who have consistently demonstrated excellence in the performance of their work and service to the university.
Established to recognize staff with 25 years of uninterrupted or accumulated service. In 2004, the club began recognizing active staff who have reached the additional milestone of 35 years of service.
With award-winning research projects and outstanding contributions from the field of medicine to the theatre, the work of our faculty is recognized globally through many of these significant awards.
UBC recognizes individual investigators who demonstrate excellence in research through a suite of seven annual research awards and fellowships that span all disciplines in the applied sciences, medicine, and social sciences and humanities. These include:
- Killam Faculty Research Fellowships
- Killam Research Prizes
- Charles A. McDowell Award for Excellence in Research
- Dorothy Somerset Award for Performance Development in the Visual and Performing Arts
- Jacob Biely Faculty Research Prize
- President’s Award for Public Education through Media
- Sam Black Award for Education and Development in the Visual and Performing Arts

- Killam Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards
An award for UBC Okanagan faculty to acknowledge teaching innovation and excellence at the Okanagan campus.
Through a number of Student Development awards, the Office of the Vice-President, Students annually recognizes exceptional contributions and significant improvements to the student experience and learning environment at UBC.
Established to recognize full-time faculty members and librarians with 25 years of service. In 2003, the club began recognizing active members who have reached the additional milestone of 35 years of service.
One or more awards of $1,000 are offered annually by the UBC Association of Professors Emeriti to UBC Emeriti who have, since attaining UBC Emeritus status, displayed exceptional leadership or initiative in volunteer community service that benefits others in Canada or abroad.
